In Texas education, Critical Race Theory is an academic framework that studies how systemic racism affects U.S. laws, policies, and institutions. This framework has led to state laws restricting how teachers discuss race, history, and current controversial topics, even though the term itself isn’t in the legislation. Texas bills, like HB 3979, limit teaching about “divisive concepts” related to race, slavery, and gender, sparking debate and affecting classroom materials, though many educators say they don’t teach CRT.

TxSP has provided an enforcement section that includes:

  • A protocol that provides all the legal requirements, preliminary steps, procedures for an investigation, reporting, and guidelines.
  • The accompanying documents include a letter to parents and three documents.

To ensure all campus staff understand their role in implementing the Instructional Requirements and Prohibitions of CRT, TxSP has prepared a training with facilitator notes and a certificate of completion.
